The fixtures for the 2010 rugby league season have been released today with fans of the 14 clubs eager to see who their side will face first.

As with the last two seasons, Champions Leeds Rhinos will begin the defence of their title a week earlier than the rest when they face the newly branded Crusaders RL, to free up the weekend when they face Australian Champions Melbourne Storm on February 28th.

Super League Format

14 teams will compete in 27 weekly rounds (home and away v each club plus one 'on the road' fixture in Edinburgh) and the top eight sides will head into the playoffs to determine the Super League Champions. The Rhinos have won the Grand Final three years in a row.

Super League Opening Round

The first official round of fixtures takes place on the weekend of February 5th/6th/7th and will see Brian Noble return to Wigan with his new club The Crusaders. Noble will not be the only returnee though as Sean Long returns to Knowsley Road (where he won four Super League titles) with new club Hull FC. The opening round of Super League looks like this:

Rugby League On Sky Sports

Sky Sports have released the first three months of fixtures that they will screen, with games such as St Helens v Wigan, Wigan v Leeds and Leeds v Bradford whetting the appetite of Super League fans across the country. The full list of released Sky Sports fixtures for 2010 is:

Friday 29th January - Crusaders v Leeds Rhinos 20.00 (at Wrexham FC)

Friday 5th February - Huddersfield Giants v Bradford Bulls 20.00.

Saturday 6th February - St Helens v Hull FC 18.00.

Friday 12th February - Wigan Warriors v Hull Kingston Rovers 20.00.

Saturday 13th February - Castleford Tigers v Warrington Wolves 18.00.

Friday 19th February - Bradford Bulls v Castleford Tigers 20.00.

Saturday 20th February - Warrington Wolves v Wigan Warriors 18.00.

Friday 26th February - Hull FC v Harlequins RL 20.00.

Saturday 27th February - Castleford Tigers v Hull Kingston Rovers 18.00.

Sunday 28th February World Club Challenge - Leeds Rhinos v Melbourne Storm 1830 (at Elland Road)

Friday 5th March - Bradford Bulls v Wigan Warriors 20.00.

Saturday 6th March - Wakefield Trinity Wildcats v Huddersfield Giants 18.00

Friday 12th March - Hull Kingston Rovers v Wakefield Trinity Wildcats 20.00.

Saturday 13th March - Warrington Wolves v Bradford Bulls 18.00.

Friday 19th March - Crusaders v Catalans Dragons 20.00

Magic Weekend

The draw for the 2010 Magic Weekend at Murrayfield in Edinburgh was held earlier on Sky Sports News. The clubs were divided into two groups dependant upon their 2009 league finish and were drawn against other teams in their group. The draw is as follows:

Hull FC v Harlequins RL

Bradford Bulls v Crusaders RL

Warrington Wolves v Salford City Reds

Leeds Rhinos v Wakefield Trinity Wildcats

Wigan Warriors v Huddersfield Giants

St Helens v Hull KR

Castleford Tigers v Catalans Dragons

The exact kick off times of the matches is yet to be confirmed, but as in 2009 three matches will take place on Saturday May 1st and four on Sunday May 2nd.
